Rembrandt. f 1655.
- Accompanying textThe etching, from the book "Piedra Gloriosa" written by Menasseh ben Israel, illustrates Daniel 2:31-35: In his dream Nebuchadnezzar sees an image with a head of gold and feet of iron and clay. A stone, on the right, breaks the image into pieces. The "glorious stone", symbol of the Messiah, becomes a mountain that fills the entire earth. Rembrandt expresses this by showing part of a globe.
