Accompanying text
Joseph and Mary present their firstborn son in the temple. It had been predicted that before he died Simeon would see the Redeemer. Here the pious old man is holding the child in his arms and praising God. The prophetess Anna also recognizes Christ. The Holy Ghost hovers above her head in the guise of a dove.
